What plane to buy????

Piper 22/20 I'm finally learning to fly. I wanted to fly taildraggers so I bought a PA 22/20 to learn in. Fine plane but I'm struggling to steer during take-offs and landings. Zig zag and over-controlling. White knuckle stuff. And this is in near dead calm! I shudder to think what a mess I'll make trying to negotiate a crosswind. Any suggestions, tips, secrets?? -

) Short wheelbase of a PA20 makes it lots more interesting on the ground. If you "wait" to correct deviaitons from the centerline till they are happening, you are about 100' behind the airplane. As you increase in your confidence your feet will do lots without you thinking much about them. Don't get the "leans" - meaning trying to get "body english" to make the thing go the direction you want it go. Put your heels on the floor, once you get rolling, and just steer with your toes.
How long has your '22 been a '20? The PA22 had a rudder aileron inter-connect. that meannt the control wheel also did some rudder along with the ailerons. If it is still hooked up that may be adding zest to your zig-zags.
You have an airplane that will give you lots of fun - just learn what she likes. -

Not an expert, but I just transitioned to a 1950 PA-20 from an experimental Protech PT2. On my check out flight, the check out pilot had to keep tellying me to use small rudder movements. I was wanting to use too much rudder and was over correcting. I thought it would be a seamless transition to the Pacer, but it is much more demanding than the Protech. So my only advice is to use more small adjustments rather than the larger ones I was trying to do. -
