Piper PA-11, s/n 11-284, registration mark N4769M, date of manufacture; 13 June, 1947. 13 June was indeed a Friday in 1947. This airplane came from the factory with a Continental A-65-8 engine installed and has not been modified. It was used in flight training continuously from 1947 to 1978 and has since led a more leisurely existence. The airplane is on its fourth owner and has spent its entire life based in western New York. The white stuff on the left lift strut is what remains of a roll of toilet paper. Note the pilot doing exactly what you're not supposed to be doing on the landing roll; not looking where you're going.
Welcome to my web page here at taildraggers.com. My mother taught me to fly in this Piper PA-11 forty-one years ago. Since then, I've been fortunate enough to fly conventional-gear aircraft professionally and recreationally.

That same Cub has been passed down through the family and I still get to fly it regularly. The airplane is based at D82 Airport, Ovid, New York. If my kid has any interest in flying, that's the airplane she'll learn with in a few more years [my wife is the C.F.I. in my generation of the family].

If anyone has any questions regarding tailwheel training and technique, I'll take a stab at answering them. I'm certainly no expert but I've made enough aeronautical blunders in Cubs, Stearmans, Twin Beeches, DC-3s, and 49 other taildraggers to maybe pass on some wisdom.
