This cassic taildragger Piper PA 18-95, still flying somewhere in Germany, was the first aircraft I handled stick + rudder when I was 10 years old with my father who had been a flight instructor in WW2 and my personal instructor at Flying Club Luebeck. Since 1956, he taught me all the tricks to stay alive, enjoy flying and make other people enjoy flying. I had the privilege of meeting many veteran pilots and learning from them. I did not become a famous pilot with 10.000+ hours, but a popular airshow-speaker who gladly informed and motivated many people, in civil and/or military airshows and videos. My son, now 18, follows Dad and Grandpa in the love of flying, the mystic of historic airplanes and the fascination and fetishism that we feel when we see, touch and fly these machines. It´s so easy to fall in love with aviation, but flying is not for everyone. Others may collect postage stamps and be happy as well. Let´s tolerate that and keep on dragging our t(r)ails into the future.
